1/7/2024 0 Comments Sync daw to mpc erm multiclockThat being said, the difference between the MPC's 960ppq and Notator's 1536ppq on a perceptual level is minimal but each sequencer has a different feel and approach to how it handles MIDI. It beats just about everything else I have for MIDI timing including an MPC 5000. I still use an Atari ST with Notator and a Unitor expander. Ideally, you want your clock source to be something dumb and very accurate- and if possible, not even MIDI. Co-operative (shitty) multitasking in TOS meant that Cubase running on it had a far more predictable clock than similar software running on something with pre-emptive multasking/scheduling. There's a reason a lot of studios kept old Atari STs around for years after they were obselete. Any modern OS with a flexible scheduler and multitasking not built from the ground up to be an RTOS is going to have unpredictable micro-latency issues. USB to the ERM from the computer too to send MIDI data - sometimes also use a Pyramid or MPC into the ERM to route MIDI around (or sometimes just sync them from it).Īs the ERM can be switched to run on its internal clock, can turn it on and have everything immediately synced without the computer - then when I turn the laptop on just switch the ERM clock over to Ableton and everything still perfectly together.Įven using a realtime-patched Linux kernel you're going to have issues. Then both MIDI (sync and data) and analogue clock out from the ERM to everything else (MIDI thru boxes/modular/MIDI hardware etc.). Audio clock out from Ableton to sync the ERM, super tight as audio not Ableton’s MIDI clock. Just to clarify, when your using Ableton the ERM is slaved to Ableton and the rest of your outboard hardware is slaved to the ERM? Plus love that it always stays a wired as my master clock for everything hardware - if the computer is off can just use its internal clock. Flexible routing if you have external sequencers etc etc. Audio clock out of Ableton for sync and USB from ITB for MIDI data.
